Cesc hopes to avoid Netherlands Wednesday, June 18, 2008
Arsenal and Spain's Cesc Fabregas is hoping he avoids club team-mate Robin van Persie and the Netherlands at Euro 2008 due to their rampant form...
The Oranje have been the most impressive team of the Austria-Switzlerland showpiece so far, racking up miraculous 3-0 and 4-1 wins over Italy and France respectively.
Their devastating form will be put to the test this evening, as a much-changed team is likely to take the field against Romania for their final group game, as they have already secured first place in the tournament's Group of Death.
Should they hit the same form they have in the groups in the quarterfinals, they may face Spain in the semis, if La Furia Roja make it past whoever finishes second in Group C this evening in their quarterfinal clash.
Fabregas suggested he would rather avoid van Persie and his side if possible: “If we were to play Holland, it would be a tough game.
“To be honest, I wouldn’t want to play against Robin because he’s such a good player and Holland are playing very, very well.
"But we’ll see what happens. First we have to finish our group tomorrow against Greece and take it game by game."
Of van Persie's goal against France after coming on as a substitute, Cesc added: "I was so pleased for him.
“He’s not been fit all season and it’s been so tough for him.
"So I am very happy to see him play and score. It’s also good news for Arsenal that he is playing well.”
