Arsenal steal late derby victory Sunday, December 23, 2007
A late goal from Nicklas Bendtner earned Arsenal a 2-1 win in the north London derby against Tottenham.
Bendtner had only been on pitch for a few seconds after coming on as a sub, but was left unmarked in the area by the Tottenham defenders.
He was left alone as Cesc Fabregas played in a corner, and Bendtner was able to head the ball into the net.
Moments earlier Robbie Keane missed a penalty for Spurs, after his side had fought back from a goal down.
Emmanuel Adebayor had put the Gunners in front just after half-time, before Dimitar Berbatov netted an equaliser.
Later in the day, Liverpool were also winners after a 4-1 victory at home to Portsmouth.
Yossi Benayoun, an own goal and Fernando Torres - with two goals - all scored for the Reds, while Benjani grabbed Portsmouth's goal with a fine finish.
One of the biggest games of the day was at the bottom of the table, where managerless Fulham saved a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Wigan.
Clint Dempsey scored the goal that earned Fulham their draw, after Marcus Bent netted an opener for Wigan.
